Welcome to 6th grade World Languages and Culture!

This is an exploratory class.  It's purpose is to expose students to culture and language through which students will familiarize themselves with basic vocabulary and allow them to master simple language concepts. No prior language experience is needed for this course.

Learning Targets SWBAT

Language Basics Unit-

Introduction to: Days of the Week, Months, Numbers, Greetings in multiple languages

Mastery of:  Alphabet and Pronunciation

 

Food Unit-

Introduction to: Many food words

Mastery of:  Fruits/Veggies words, masculine, feminine, singular and plural rules, articles-a, the and some,  Verb conjugation for present tense -ER verbs (comer/beber), and Pronouns.

In general students will learn sentence structure along with capitalization and punctuation in the target language.

 

Celebrations Around the World Unit*-

In general students will learn about a variety of holidays and vocabulary associated with them:  

New Year, Valentine's Day, Saint Patrick's Day, Quinceañera and other similar celebrations in the world, Cinco de mayo, Día de Independencia, Día de Guadalupe and Día de los Muertos and Navidad and other similar celebrations world wide.

*How much time we have left towards the end of the quarter will determine how much we learn in the Celebrations Around the World Unit.
